FlowScroll Support – Help with the Smooth-Scroll Extension for Safari
FlowScroll is a Safari extension for macOS that gives every website the buttery smooth scrolling of Lenis while respecting your system settings for reduced motion. It is made for everyone who finds native Safari scrolling too harsh and prefers a calmer, more even reading experience – without tracking and without manipulating a page’s JavaScript. This FAQ explains how to enable it in Safari, compatibility with websites and common pitfalls. If something behaves unexpectedly on a particular site or you would like more settings, we look forward to your message via the form below.
Frequently asked questions
1. How do I activate the extension after installing it?
1. Launch the macOS host app “FlowScroll”. 2. Open Safari → Settings → Extensions. 3. Enable SmoothFlow (tick the checkbox). 4. Click the FlowScroll icon in the Safari toolbar and grant website access with “Allow when visiting” (or “Always allow”). 5. Open a website and scroll – changes apply live, without reloading.
2. Why is FlowScroll ideal for reading long articles?
Because it accelerates and decelerates evenly. That helps you keep your place in the text, reduces micro-stutter and supports continuous reading – perfect for news, blogs, technical texts, documentation and web PDFs. Many users report less eye strain and better focus.
3. How does SmoothFlow work technically?
SmoothFlow integrates the proven Lenis library and renders scroll movement with requestAnimationFrame for smooth 60 FPS (and more, depending on the display). On top come easing curves, speed fine-tuning and a mouse/trackpad sensitivity setting – all local, without any data transfer.
4. Does FlowScroll work offline?
Yes. The extension works entirely on-device and needs no internet connection.
5. Does FlowScroll interfere with existing smooth-scroll scripts?
FlowScroll detects many existing solutions automatically and steps back. You can also disable it for any domain at any time in the popup (blacklist).
6. Which devices and versions are supported?
macOS 10.14+, Safari 14.0+. Not supported: Safari on iOS/iPadOS, system pages (e.g. about:, file://) and Safari extension pages.
7. What about privacy?
We collect no data. Settings are stored locally in Safari. Permissions used: activeTab and storage.
8. Why doesn't the scrolling change on some websites?
Possible reasons: the site “hijacks” scrolling (its own scroll system) – disable the domain. The content sits in its own scroll container. “Reduce motion” is enabled in macOS. Another extension conflicts – test in a fresh profile.
9. Does SmoothFlow work with “Reduce motion” (accessibility)?
Yes. SmoothFlow respects the system setting Reduce motion (macOS System Settings → Accessibility → Display). If you want smoother scrolling despite reduced motion, turn this option off system-wide or use very gentle presets (low speed, “Balanced”).
10. Does the extension increase CPU load or battery use?
The engine is lightweight. On extremely long pages or single-page apps, usage can rise. Tips: choose a speed of 0.9–1.2 s and the “Balanced” easing. Blacklist domains with heavy effects. Disable other scroll extensions.
11. Can I save separate settings per website?
Currently FlowScroll supports enabling/disabling per domain. Fine-tuning (e.g. a custom speed per site) is planned for an upcoming update.
12. Does FlowScroll work with a mouse, Magic Mouse and trackpad?
Yes. In the popup, set the mouse/trackpad sensitivity (0.5x–2.0x) to match your input device.
13. Why are screen recordings “calmer” with FlowScroll?
Because scrolling runs without abrupt jumps – ideal for Loom demos, tutorials and presentations.
14. How do I uninstall FlowScroll?
Remove the app in the App Store or delete it from the Applications folder, and disable it under Safari → Extensions. Settings are managed by Safari.
15. How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Use reportaproblem.apple.com with your Apple ID.
